That is what my Consciousness feels like tonight, not a Stream but a Mud Bottom Flat. I can imagine stepping off barefoot into my stream’s mud. As that one foot lands, it slowly sinks as the stinky sludge oozes slowly between my toes and up my ankle. As I realize that there is no true bottom, that I could sink until suffocated, I attempt to step back away from the Bottom. Only, it won’t let me go. Instead it begins to pull me downward into unenlightened darkness. No light of inspiration flickers.
A flame flickers in a glass jar across the room on a mantle. The glass jar is unevenly soot ridden leaving the flickering flame half hidden. The flame dances as if it hungers for oxygen, food for life. Soon enough, it will be snuffed once again by exhaled air but for now it fights for life.
Who What When Where How Why
Which one am I missing? According to the Five Ws Wikipedia article: I’m not, if you are just considering current usage (with factual responses):
– Who is it about?
– What happened?
– When did it take place?
– Where did it happen?
– How did it happen (could be left out if covered by what, where, or when).
Further back in history though, they were less succinct:
– Who, what, when, where, why, in what way, by what means
– Who, what, why, how, where, when, with what
– Who, what, and where, by what help, and by whose: Why, how, and when, do many things disclose.
What, why, what of it
First the facts, next the proof of the facts, then the consequences of the facts
Who – the flame
What – dances
When – now
Where – in the jar on the mantle
How – via the magic of combustion
Why – Now that is the question, isn’t it? To provide warmth and light and enjoyment along with a the potential for disguising any unwelcome odors. NO. that is not why, the flame dances. It’s not motivated to do all of those things. Those are my motivations. What is it’s motivation? It reaches for fuel, for oxygen. It is potentially influenced by a wind current (a draft). Per Wikipedia, if it was in outer space with micro gravity or zero gravity, the flame would become spherical.
Who – the dog
What – barks
When – now
Where – Here
How – not aggressively, perhaps excitedly, …. bark, bark, bark, pause, repeat
Why – I’m not sure. I should go investigate.
Smell, Sound, Smell, Touch, Taste – contemplating the magic mix of description of each of these senses when writing descriptive fiction or non-fiction. IN the case of fiction, the inclusion of other pseudo-fictions should be added (i.e.. sixth sense).
Contemplating the combination of Who, What, When, Where, How, Why and Smell, Sound, Smell, Touch, Taste. The proper mixture of these and the ease of going overboard …. into the mud.
